ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a professional DevOps specialist to join the Power Factors Cloud Operations team and take a leading role in our DevOps tooling and CI/CD framework. As a leading SaaS provider to the renewable energies industry, our applications must be secure, highly available, and scalable with our customers’ growing demands. Being the case, we strive to push improvements and new features to our applications through automation and DevOps practices.

Internally, our development, architecture, and cloud operations team use DevOps tooling to build, deploy, and monitor applications and infrastructure in cloud environments – predominantly AWS (but some Azure and GCP as well). In general, the development teams are responsible for building and running their own applications and infrastructure – including creating their own CI/CD pipelines. In this role, you will interface with these teams to lead changes and improvements regarding DevOps practices and CI/CD tooling.

You will be responsible for evaluating our current DevOps toolset and processes and then helping to determining how we can further improve. You will also work to document and create best practices for using our DevOps tooling. You will work with our Application Security team to incorporate security into our CI/CD pipelines using Snyk (DevSecOps). You will work with development and cloud operations teams to troubleshoot any issues that may arise with pipelines and work to optimize builds and deployments.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Work with the rest of the Cloud Operations teams to support internal automation and tooling used to support AWS Landing Zone multi-account infrastructure
  • Work with development teams and developer experience guild to streamline and improve developer experience and workflows when deploying infrastructure and applications to AWS
  • Help standardize build, deployment, and operation tooling and processes for Docker containers running on AWS ECS and AWS EKS
  • Maintain and create IaC using AWS CDK and assist development teams with any IaC issues related to AWS resources
  • Provide guidance, support, documentation, and training to other teams on CI/CD pipelines and other DevOps tooling
  • Optimize and streamline builds times, artifact management, and secret management
  • Work with AppSec teams to get Snyk SCA and SAST tooling incorporated into CI/CD pipelines
  • Help implement more complex deployments such as blue-green or canary
  • Work with development teams to ensure applications are properly monitored for performance and security and integrated with central monitoring stack (Datadog)

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

We believe you enjoy working in a purpose-driven organization and that you thrive in an environment where you need to find creative solutions to challenging problems in a fast-changing context. This also means that you are effective at managing multiple tasks of varying complexities, work well under pressure, and are driven by continuous learning and growth. Specifically, we are looking for someone with the following toolbox:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or in a related field with minimum of 4 years experience
  • Deep understanding and significant work experience with Docker containers, Kubernetes orchestration, and Service Mesh
  • Expertise in CI/CD tooling – specifically YAML pipelines with GitHub Actions
  • Good understanding of CI/CD for PostgreSQL databases using technologies such as Liquidbase
  • Some developer experience with SaaS applications to better understand the challenges faced by development teams responsible with regards to DevOps
  • Familiarity with .NET, Python, GoLang, and JavaScript languages
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such – preferably Datadog
  • Experience with AWS CDK for infrastructure as code
  • Experience with security tooling (SCA, SAST, DAST) and incorporating into CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to learn, analyze, and problem solve technical issues
